At the risk of grossing the entire list out, saliva is commonly used by
conservators to remove nicotine. The enyzmes in saliva are very effective
for removing a variety of accretions. Saliva is applied using a swaby &
it is crucial to "rinse" afterwards with distilled water (again, applied
by a swab). I'm not sure what is meant by "gold" (i.e., is it water
gilded, oil gilded...) but given that the frame has survived soap and
water, it must be fairly robust.
