Re: Societies materials etc

ARTFRAME asked what was the difference between `rag' board and high alpha
cellulose board, saying that the latter was lignin free and acid free.
Whereas the first - cotton is latently acid free at manufacture, wood pulp
high alpha cellulose which has been chemically treated, still contains
lignin - it has to, and despite buffering, a potential to acidity. In my
experience here in the UK, museums are reluctant to move from their time
founded trust in the all cotton material.

Vivian Kistler is correct about the Guild's new standards, except that they
are not especially precise either, in my view.
