Subject: Electrolytic reduction of iron with silver inlay
I am a masters student at West Dean College, studying the effects of electrolytic reduction on small ferrous objects with silver wire inlay, with Japanese sword guards (tsuba) in mind, but using small wrought iron coupons inlaid with fine silver as experimental pieces. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of designing and carrying out similar electrolytic reduction experiments, or of the conservation of wire inlay objects (or specifically of tsuba). Any advice on the project would be much appreciated.
