Table cases

I have been asked to advise on the purchase of some new table cases
for the display of bound material in a historic context.  Please can
anyone advise about good/bad experiences with recent table cases.  I
would be interested to hear if anyone has used elctro-optic glass to
reduce light exposure--whether the glass is reliable and whether
there are any downsides (for example activation time, durability and
whether visitors walk past without looking in a case as the glass is
so dark at a distance).  Many thanks,
