The effectiveness of infrared in digitally 'removing' burn marks on
paper was recently exploited in Tartu, Estonia.

This PDF also shows the effectiveness of using Photoshop to subtract
a white front-lit image from a white back-lit image thereby
eliminating writing on the front surface and revealing the 'hidden'
text.
