"Conservation of Glass" CCI Advanced Professional Development Workshop Canadian Conservation Institute, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) is pleased to announce that a CCI Advanced Professional Development Workshop entitled "Conservation of Glass" will be held from October 24-28, 2016, at CCI in Ottawa, Ontario. The workshop will be presented by Stephen Koob, Chief Conservator at the Corning Museum of Glass, New York, USA. This workshop is aimed at conservators, in particular glass conservators, and requires background knowledge in conservation. The workshop will be delivered in English, and the deadline to apply is August 26, 2016. There are two options to apply: One Day Lecture Monday, October 24, 2016 Presentations will cover the chemistry and technology of glass, archaeological glass, preservation and deterioration of glass, cleaning, atmospheric deterioration of glass (crizzling) and the display, storage, packing and shipping of glass. Five Day Workshop Monday - Friday, October 24-28, 2016 One-day lecture followed by four days of practical hands-on exercises, including how to set up a laboratory for the conservation of glass; selecting materials, tools and chemicals including the choice of appropriate adhesives and consolidants; how to prepare Paraloid B-72 and mix epoxies; cleaning glass mechanically and chemically, including stain removal; applying adhesives and replacing lost fragments using different methods (both direct fills and detachable restorations); finishing epoxy adhesives and fills; and how to retreat previously restored objects.
