"Fine Art" can include the following: paintings (easel paintings) that are historical (pre-20th Century), modern (20th Century), and/or contemporary art. Projects are individual or multidisciplinary. Intent of the process: A pool of qualified candidates resulting from this selection process will be created and may be used to fill same or similar positions with various tenures, language and security requirements within the department of Canadian Heritage. Failing to do so could result in your application being rejected In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications) Graduation with a Master's degree in conservation from a recognized post-secondary institution or a successful completion of a two (2) year post-secondary educational program in conservation and equivalent experience The applicant must have specialized training in the conservation of Fine Art A "recognized" post-secondary institution is one that has provincial or territorial degree/diploma-granting status, or a university/college outside Canada of which the programs/degrees are accepted by a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution Equivalent experience: In addition to the successful completion of a two (2) year post-secondary educational program in conservation candidates must have the equivalent to two (2) years of valid experience in conservation for each year of Master's degree in conservation that the candidate does not have Specialized is defined as having completed courses and workshops on the conservation of Fine Art Recent experience and extensive experience in conservation treatment of Fine Art (that can include historical paintings (19th century and earlier periods), modern paintings (20th century) and contemporary art) Recent experience is defined as occurring in the last five (5) years Extensive experience is defined as having over 5 years of experience in the conservation of Paintings Experience in the development of techniques, methodologies of conservation and restoration of Fine Art (that can include historical paintings (19th century and earlier periods), modern paintings (20th century) and contemporary art) Experience in planning own conservation treatment work projects (Project Management) Experience in writing and publishing specialized professional papers, articles or reports and giving conference presentations If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications) Asset Qualifications: Experience with conservation of paintings on non-canvas supports for example, wood, metal and glass Experience with packing of paintings for transport Approximately 3 to 5 years of experience in the conservation, preservation and exhibition of contemporary Media Art, art installations and time-based media that may include synthetic materials, electronics, magnetic media, plastics, rubber and found materials Approximately 3 to 5 years of experience in the conservation of polychrome finishes typically found on wooden sculpture Experience in developing and delivering training to interns, conservators and clients Experience in carrying out research Professional accreditation by the Canadian Association of Professional Conservators (CAPC) or equivalent international accreditation Experience in the conservation of mural paintings The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job): Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB) Please note that unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply as we will be creating a pool of candidates for unilingual positions Knowledge of the science and technology of Paintings their constituent materials and their properties Knowledge of the techniques and practices of assessing the condition and conservation needs of Fine Art.
