Subject: chlorine dioxide and mold
Does anyone have experience with the use of chlorine dioxide packets for mold remediation on library and archival collections, and/or knowledge of the long-term effects of chlorine dioxide on materials? It seems this was a topic of discussion in the 1990s/early 2000s, with two articles found on CoOL: <URL:http://cool.conservation-us.org/byorg/abbey/an/an24/an24-4/an24-402.html> and <URL:http://cool.conservation-us.org/byorg/abbey/an/an26/an26-6/an26-618.html> and it has come up again at least once recently: <URL:http://cool.conservation-us.org/coolaic/sg/bpg/annual/v21/bp21-08.pdf> But, I'm not finding any further information on potential long-term damage caused by using chlorine dioxide, and specifically packets of it, for mold remediation. Any knowledge, experience, or resources would be much appreciated.
