Conservator (Anthropology Redisplay) Horniman Museum S.E. London Full-time (35 hours per week) and fixed term until 31 March 2016 Salary UKP26,754 (rising to UKP27,300 on successful completion of probation) Ref: CMSP7.16 The HLF (Heritage Lottery Fund) has awarded UKP3.3m to the Horniman Museum to create a World Gallery, due to open in 2018. This new gallery will explore what it means to be human, and include objects from a wide variety of continents, as well as community-curated displays. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Conservator to assist with the conservation and preparation of objects for this new gallery. As well as a degree in Conservation, applicants must have wide-ranging post-qualification experience, encompassing the care, documentation and treatment of both organic and inorganic anthropological objects in a museum environment. The Conservator will be based partly at the main Museum site in Forest Hill and partly at the Study Collections Centre in North Greenwich. The postholder will contribute to other activities undertaken by the Conservation section such as environmental monitoring and compilation of environmental reports; internal staff training in object handling, packing and transport; and supervision of students and volunteers. Participation in public outreach activities relating to the Anthropology Redisplay Project will also be expected.
