9 Month contract to cover maternity.

Grade G UKP22,937- UKP24,472 per annum.

The Norfolk Record Office has a vacancy for an Archive Conservator.

You will have a recognised qualification and at least one years'
experience of archive conservation.  You will be required to
undertake repair and conservation work, including book binding,
paper repair, map repairs, parchment repairs, conservation of seals,
photographs, prints and drawings, and liaise with all Record Office
staff (especially the Archivists and Strongroom staff) concerning
documents in need of conservation or repair to ensure that holdings
are conserved and preserved to defined standards.

You will be expected to actively take part in Record Office outreach
activities, promoting good conservation practice by giving talks and
regular demonstrations of conservation work, and by developing and
delivering internal and external training, also to advise owners of
records and members of the public on conservation matters on
request, in order to raise standards and awareness of conservation
needs.

The role involves the preparation and conservation of archival and
related material for exhibition; including co-ordination of
exhibition delivery, mounting, installation and display.

You will continue to implement and adapt the conservation programme
for long-term improvement of storage of archives held in the Record
Office concerning reception, cleaning, handling, re-boxing and
shelving, and similar material throughout NCC, to support the
permanent preservation of Norfolk's archival collections.

You should maintain awareness of practices and materials through
membership of conservation and archive related bodies; and by
attendance at meetings, seminars and conferences to keep in contact
with other conservators and by reading Conservation and Conservation
related publications and journals, in order to stay up-to-date with
the latest professional procedures and practices.

Knowledge of the monitoring and interpreting of environmental
conditions and the achievement of appropriate levels would be an
advantage.  Maintaining workshop equipment and implementing practice
to standards required by Health and Safety legislation, to ensure
safe environments for staff, public and documents is also required.

Closing date for applications will be the 31 May 2016, interviews
are expected to take place before the end of June 2016.  A portfolio
of previous work should be brought to the interview.
