Senior Conservation Scientist (Technical Manager) SGS United Kingdom Ltd London We are looking for a Senior Conservation Scientist (Technical Manager) to head up our Art Services team in the UK, to help us maintain and develop the technical excellence of the Art Services (condition report and technical examination on artworks). You will have overall responsibility for ensuring that the inspection activities are carried out in accordance with technical procedures and internal protocols, delivering on-site technical examination reports on artworks plus train and audit inspectors performing condition reports. Duties and Responsibilities: Establishing pragmatic and efficient analytical plans to meet clients' expectations Scheduling and conducting autonomously analyses by techniques such as photography in visible and UV light, stereomicroscopy, X-ray radiography, infrared reflectography, X-ray microfluorescence, and others as appropriate (Raman, FTIR, SEM, GCMS, radiocarbon dating) in collaboration with external partners to investigate works of art Performing sampling and micro-sampling on artworks Drafting technical examination reports Training inspectors performing condition reports on acquisition procedure, scope, conservation and security issues according to technical procedures and internal protocols. Auditing inspection activities according to technical procedures and internal protocols Advising Local Business Developer on art-related technical issues Carrying out quality checks of condition reports performed by inspectors Ensuring laboratory and equipment is maintained Ensuring compliance with safety and radio protection regulations Skills Strong understanding of conservation theory, ethical decision-making ability and knowledge of preventive conservation practices Able to demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving abilities Fluent in English. MA Degree - Art Conservation Science Experience Extensive experience in technical examination on artworks Experience on condition reporting on different categories of art objects Excellent competences in photography and documentation of cultural objects Effective team management skills Strong organisational skills Able to easily draft technical documents in English Excellent information management skills and competent in the use of Microsoft Office (advanced report writing/spreadsheet capabilities using Excel and Word) Able to operate with precision and independence The ability to interpret specifications to satisfy clients' requirements.
