Survey on laid-thread couching in textile conservation

From: Hannah Sutherland <hannah.sutherland<-at->
Date: Tuesday, May 3, 2016
I am a second year student at the Centre for Textile Conservation,
University of Glasgow. As part of this programme I am currently
carrying out research for my dissertation regarding the spacing of
laid-thread couching lines in support treatments. This work aims to
continue that of Sarah Benson, who previously looked into the use of
"like with like" in stitched supports. To support this research I
have designed a questionnaire aimed at gathering the general
attitudes towards the spacing of laid-thread couching lines and how
textile conservators go about deciding where to place their lines.
The questionnaire should take no longer than 5-10 minutes to
complete. There is a comments area at the end should you wish to
contribute further.

The ultimate aim of this project is to investigate, and give
quantitative data regarding, how the spacing of couching can impact
the amount of strain distributed across an area of damage. A
summary of results from the project will be shared with participants
if they wish.

The survey will stay open until May 31, 2016. Please feel free to
share with colleagues.
