Subject: Fellowship at Walters Art Museum
Samuel H. Kress Conservation Fellowship in Objects Conservation Walters Art Museum The Walters Art Museum is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to an emerging professional conservator to work in an active museum laboratory that focuses on treatment, research, preventative collections care and public outreach. The Walters objects lab will host a Samuel H. Kress Conservation Fellowship administered by the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation that will focus on the treatment and study of ceramics. The fellowship begins in September 2016, and is for a one year period. The Walters is a dynamic museum with art works from around the world. This fellowship concentrates on three aspects of ceramics conservation: the complicated treatment of a Chinese porcelain lantern form the K'ang hsi period (1662-1722), the investigation of stain removal techniques on glazed ceramics, and the condition survey and re-housing of 70 pieces of Mina'i ware, overglaze, polychrome-painted ceramics produced in medieval Iran. In addition, the fellow will contribute content for an upcoming installation focusing on the materials and making of ceramics, and will participate in public outreach in the Walters Conservation window. As part of the Walters department of conservation and technical research, the fellow will work collaboratively across all divisions of the museum. Candidates should be graduates of a recognized conservation training graduate program or have equivalent experience. Previous experience in the treatment of ceramics is desirable. The selected candidate will receive a stipend provided by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation administered through the FAIC, in addition to $1,000 for travel/research, plus health insurance coverage. Applications including a letter of interest, current resume, and two references, should be sent to jobs<-at->thewalters<.>org. Deadline for applications is May 15, 2016.
