Senior Fellow in Paintings Conservation Conservation and Restoration of Cassoni from the Workshop of Paolo Uccello Yale University Art Gallery One-year fellowship with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Start date: September 2016 Salary and benefits commensurate with experience. The Yale University Art Gallery has a remarkable number of cassone panels by Paolo Uccello's predecessors and contemporaries. Reporting to the Chief Conservator and Chief Curator, the fellow will undertake, in collaboration with the Senior Conservator of Paintings, the examination and conservation of two works recently attributed to Paolo Uccello. The primary goal of this project is the conservation and restoration of the two works: a complete cassone, Battle of Greeks and Amazons before the Walls of Troy; Allegories of Faith and Justice; and Reclining Nude (University Art Gallery accession number 1933.1) and a cassone panel, The Triumphal Entry into Rome of Titus and Vespasian (accession number 2015.17.1). This will be undertaken in conjunction with the examination and analysis of the artist's technique and the conservation history of each work, which will guide decisions for cleaning and loss compensation. Other works connected to the artist's workshop in collections in the United States and Europe may be studied as part of the project. Analysis of materials of the artworks will be undertaken in collaboration with the Technical Studies Laboratory of the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage. The post holder will be a recent graduate of a recognized conservation program, able to work in a collaborative setting and also independently within the agreed goals of the treatment. The Senior Fellow will have experience of working on early Italian panel paintings, preferably including a single long-term project to completion. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: A master's degree in paintings conservation or equivalent experience A minimum of 2 years of conservation experience after graduation. Good reading and speaking knowledge of Italian.
