Senior Fellow in Paintings Conservation
Conservation and Restoration of Cassoni from the Workshop of Paolo
    Uccello
Yale University Art Gallery

One-year fellowship with the possibility of renewal for a second
year.

Start date: September 2016

Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.

The Yale University Art Gallery has a remarkable number of cassone
panels by Paolo Uccello's predecessors and contemporaries.
Reporting to the Chief Conservator and Chief Curator, the fellow
will undertake, in collaboration with the Senior Conservator of
Paintings, the examination and conservation of two works recently
attributed to Paolo Uccello.

The primary goal of this project is the conservation and restoration
of the two works: a complete cassone, Battle of Greeks and Amazons
before the Walls of Troy; Allegories of Faith and Justice; and
Reclining Nude (University Art Gallery accession number 1933.1) and
a cassone panel, The Triumphal Entry into Rome of Titus and
Vespasian (accession number 2015.17.1). This will be undertaken in
conjunction with the examination and analysis of the artist's
technique and the conservation history of each work, which will
guide decisions for cleaning and loss compensation. Other works
connected to the artist's workshop in collections in the United
States and Europe may be studied as part of the project. Analysis
of materials of the artworks will be undertaken in collaboration
with the Technical Studies Laboratory of the Institute for the
Preservation of Cultural Heritage.

The post holder will be a recent graduate of a recognized
conservation program, able to work in a collaborative setting and
also independently within the agreed goals of the treatment. The
Senior Fellow will have experience of working on early Italian panel
paintings, preferably including a single long-term project to
completion.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: A master's degree in
paintings conservation or equivalent experience A minimum of 2 years
of conservation experience after graduation. Good reading and
speaking knowledge of Italian.
