The Legal Issues in Conservation Working Group invites you to
participate in its 2014-2017 interim meeting on Friday, June 3,
2016. The meeting will begin at 10 am.

The goal of the meeting is to look at the rights of living artists
when it comes to the restoration and conservation of their work.
The issue of artist rights is not only something to be considered
for "traditional" objects or museum installations. It must also be
considered public art and performance, community and ritual art.

The issues we will discuss include artist sanction and the rights of
artists to direct and oversee the restoration, copying, remaking, or
reinstallation of their works.

The meeting will feature talks by conservators Rustin Levenson and
Harriet Irgang Alden on outdoor mural paintings, and graffiti art,
conservator John Scott, and by the Dutch community/ritual artist,
Ida van der Lee. The talks will be followed by a Socratic dialogue
on the issue, moderated by Bill Wei of the Cultural Heritage Agency
of the Netherlands, and modeled after the dialogue held at the
ICOM-CC triennial meeting in Melbourne, 2014.

There is no charge for the meeting which will include a light lunch
and coffee/tea. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
