Book and Archives Conservator South East London, UK 2-3 days per week, flexible, hours may vary. Do you want to work with on a broad variety of books and archival material and want to expand your practical skills? Working alongside an accredited conservator in a small, independent workshop, you would be required to perform conservation treatments on rare books and manuscripts, and other archival material including posters, modern printed materials and parchment, and providing high quality professional services to museum and library collections, archives and private owners. High level practical skills are a must. Pay rate: Hourly rate negotiable depending on experience Key skills required: Masters level qualification in Book and Archives Conservation with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification professional experience High level of professional engagement, preferably on the PACR pathway towards accreditation and practical knowledge of current practice and research Experienced in time management and record keeping Be confident working on the full range of treatments, from preparation for digitisation, to binding reconstruction Demonstrable experience in a variety of materials including leather, paper and parchment Able to work independently and also following specified instruction Strong communication skills and ability to maintain confident working relationships Must enjoy working with rare, complex and delicate material, from the complexities of more modern materials to the subtleties of historic binding structures and their preservation.
