Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Plowden and Smith is an established private conservation company.
We are looking to employ a Senior Decorative Arts Conservator.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day
running of the Decorative Arts Department.  They will oversee work
by others in the Department--both in the workshop and on site--and
work closely with the Client Liaison Manager and the Head of
Conservation.

The successful candidate will be expected to work on a wide range of
objects, including sculpture, ethnographic objects and decorative
surfaces, with a strong emphasis on modern materials and
contemporary art.  An excellent knowledge of materials and their
properties is therefore crucial.

This position will include preventive care for three-dimensional
objects, examination and technical analysis, conservation research,
documentation and treatment of objects.

The successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency and commitment
to high quality and appropriate conservation treatments in
accordance with ICON guidelines.  He/she will also assist with the
maintenance of departmental records through accurate written and
photographic documentation

The candidate must be flexible in approach with a known track record
of working to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of
work.  They must be able to work in a team as well as being
self-motivated.

Duties Include:

    Working with the other departments in the company

    Producing quality work, on time and to tight deadlines when
    required

    Writing condition and treatment reports

    Keeping a digital photographic record of work

    Keeping up to date with new developments in the field

    Maintaining good housekeeping, tidiness and careful management
    of resources

    Working on site as well as in the workshop, contexts could
    include major galleries, museums, private homes, heritage sites
    and storage facilities

    Working abroad for short periods should this be required

    Providing practical conservation advice and guidance

    Assisting in monitoring and managing resources

Essential Criteria:

    Minimum of 10 years post graduate experience in conservation

    Specialist knowledge in at least one area of conservation
    appropriate to the decorative art department

    An extensive knowledge of materials and their properties

    Organisational ability and self-motivation

    The ability to work as part of a team

    Good communication skills with colleagues and clients

    Excellent command of written and spoken English

    ICON Accredited

Desirable criteria:

    Good working knowledge of Word and Excel

    Clean and current driving license

    Be prepared to travel both in the UK and abroad for projects
