Textile Conservator
The Conservation Center

This is a full-time salaried position.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience.

The Conservation Center is soliciting applicants to join the
company's conservation team as a Textile Conservator.  This is a
detail-oriented role that also provides exposure to many aspects of
art conservation outside of the textile field.  The successful
applicant will be expected to work both independently and in
collaboration with other departments to perform an effective
treatment.  The Conservation Center has a reputation for excellence,
innovative treatments, and expertise.  The successful applicant will
be expected to maintain the aforementioned standard of care.

Responsibilities

Conservation:

    Perform examinations with accuracy and attention to detail, both
    in-house and on-site, to create comprehensive condition and
    treatment reports

    Carry out treatments with minimal supervision on a wide range of
    textiles

    Keep accurate and clear records of both treatment and results

    Perform risk assessments and be able to advise and implement
    good preventative care

    Explore innovative techniques, materials, and ideas and apply
    them where appropriate

    Collaborate across departments on treatment projects

Qualifications

Education:

    A recognized conservation qualification or relevant training in
    textile conservation

    Demonstrable studio experience

Skills:

    Excellent communication, organizational and time management
    skills

    Ability to multitask and work within strict deadlines,
    effectively reprioritizing as needed

    Current knowledge and proficiency in a wide range of textile
    treatment processes

    Sound understanding of how textiles may be altered

    Experience mounting textiles and costumes for display

    Solid understanding of conservation theory and the principals of
    ethical decision making

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Good verbal and written communication skills
