Lecturer in Conservation of Easel Paintings/Polychrome Sculpture The Graduate School of Cultural Heritage Conservation National Yunlin University of Science and Technology Taiwan The Graduate School of Cultural Heritage Conservation, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology is seeking a Junior Lecturer in the conservation of easel paintings or polychrome sculpture. National Yunlin University of Science and Technology is a research oriented technical university in Yunlin County, Taiwan and has been ranked among the top ten most competitive universities nationwide. The university, also known as YunTech was founded in 1991 and has approximately 10,000 students. Currently, the Graduate School of Cultural Heritage Conservation has a broad teaching base where students are able to focus on one of the following specialisms: Buildings and Cultural Landscapes; Revitalization and Management of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage; and Objects Conservation or Paper/Asian Paintings Conservation. The School offers both BA and MA degrees. In addition to lecture theatres the Graduate School of Cultural Heritage Conservation has a large and well equipped studio for paper, textile and paintings conservation; a fully equipped objects conservation laboratory; and an analytical section which houses SEM/EDX; FTIR; XRD; FTIR; Micro-Raman Spectrometry; Raman/LIBS spectroscopy; GC-MS; TG/DSC; digital X-radiography; and a 3D optical microscope. The teaching program will shortly be expanded to include a two-year Master of Arts in Conservation taught in English. As a consequence, the Graduate School of Cultural Heritage Conservation will appoint a new teacher with specialisms in either Easel Paintings or Polychrome Sculpture. The successful candidate must have qualified from a recognized conservation program in at least one of these specialisms, have demonstrable practical experience, plus a PhD in a related subject. A good command of English is a requirement since all teaching will be in English. The position is suitable for a conservator who has recently completed their PhD and is eager to establish themselves in an academic career. The department currently has two European teachers on the faculty and, therefore, the appointed conservator can expect substantial support in terms of language and administrative issues. Appointment will initially be on one-year renewable contracts. Subsidized accommodation on campus is also available and there is the possibility for assistance with travel to Taiwan for the successful candidate. Salary will depend upon qualifications and extent of experience.
