Conservation Scientist Munch Museum A full-time, permanent A full-time, permanent, position for a Conservation Scientist is now available in the Munch Museum's Conservation Department. The Conservation Department is responsible for the care of Munch's and Stenersen's collections, mainly consisting of paintings and works on paper, and research on Edvard Munch's artworks and their conservation. This post focuses on improving the Museum's knowledge of the collection, investigating the causes of its deterioration, and developing conservation strategies for its long-term preservation. This is also a strategic post to help create a robust foundation for conservation research within the museum and build research capacity within the conservation team. The immediate priority of the position will be in developing and implementing research on 4 key areas: Gaining knowledge of Munch's materials and painting techniques to inform conservation policies and treatments Understanding the mechanisms of deterioration of artworks to inform the care and protection of the collection, and to facilitate the museum's programme of exhibitions and loans Developing optimum storage and display conditions to reduce the rate of decay to objects and necessity for treatments Training and skill-sharing within conservation department and other museum professionals, both nationally and internationally In the longer-term, the focus of the role is likely to develop into the management and support of post-doctoral research projects, in partnership with national and international partners (creating partnerships, securing research funding and project management) and within the scope of wider research on Munch's works.
