Conservator (Preventive and Remedial Conservation The British Museum London Full time Fixed Term: 23 months in duration UKP29,689 per annum Application Deadline: Friday 29 March 2016 The British Museum has an exciting opportunity for a Conservator to join the Conservation department and provide both preventive and remedial conservation expertise in the preparation of temporary and permanent exhibitions, loans, collections storage and research. Working independently and to high standards, the post holder will act as lead preventive conservation liaison for the British Museum's two main temporary exhibition galleries, collaborating with and advising a range of internal and external stakeholders; The role will equally involve assessing objects' condition whilst developing and carrying out all aspects of remedial conservation on a wide range of organic and inorganic objects from archaeological, historic and contemporary contexts. Educated in a recognised professional conservation qualification to degree level, or equivalent, you will have considerable experience of working in the museum sector with a range of objects made from organic and inorganic materials. You will possess a strong understanding of conservation theory and ethical decision-making and have experience in the preventive care of museum or heritage collections. With a strong level of organisation and initiative, the post-holder will be able to apply appropriate expertise and communicate effectively at all levels of the museum and with a wide range of external stakeholders.
