Subject: Fellowship at Walters Art Museum
Andrew W. Mellon Advanced Training Fellowship in Rare Book and Manuscript Conservation The Walters Art Museum Baltimore, MD The Walters Art Museum is offering an exciting opportunity to an emerging professional conservator to work in an active museum laboratory that focuses on preventive collections care, treatment, research and public outreach. This is an Andrew W. Mellon advanced training fellowship in rare book and manuscript conservation to begin in early November 2016. The fellowship is for one year, but may be renewed for a second year. The Walters is a dynamic museum with a wide variety of art works from around the world. The collection includes more than 900 illuminated manuscripts from Europe and the Middle East, 1,300 incunables and 1,200 later printed books and fine bindings. Staff members of the Department of Conservation and Technical Research work collaboratively across all divisions of the museum and are committed to professional activities both nationally and internationally. The Fellow will be encouraged to also play an active role in a broad range of professional activities within and outside the museum. Generally the Fellow will work at least 50% of their time on the museum's programmatic priorities, including activities relating to exhibitions, installations, loans and preventive care of the permanent collections, as well as public outreach through the museum's popular "Conservation Window." For the remaining time the Fellow will focus on an in-depth treatment and technical research project, culminating in a publishable paper. Candidates should be graduates of a recognized conservation training program or have equivalent training and experience. Previous experience in the treatment of parchment is desirable. The selected candidate will receive a generous stipend, commensurate with experience, in addition to funds for travel/research, plus health insurance coverage. Applications, including a letter of interest, current resume, and two letters of recommendation, should be sent to jobs<-at->thewalters<.>org. Deadline for applications is March 25, 2016.
