Statens Museum for Kunst (SMK)

Since 1971 the Conservation Department at Statens Museum for Kunst,
the national gallery of Denmark, has offered internships that have
enabled students and graduates of conservation programmes to
participate in the museum's objective to research and preserve the
rich and diverse collections.

The Centre for Art Technological Studies and Conservation CATS) is
part of the department and is a collaborative venture between
Statens Museum for Kunst (SMK), The National Museum of Denmark (NMD)
and the School of Conservation (SoC) at the Royal Danish Academy of
Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation.

The Conservation Department comprises three studios caring for

    Paintings
    Drawings and prints
    Contemporary art and objects

The internship program offers students an opportunity to develop and
refine their skills through the examination and treatment of works
of art under the guidance of professional conservators. Informal
discussions contribute to the programme. In addition, the
internship will include other museum-related activities.

Candidates for internships should be students of a recognized
training programme in conservation or have equivalent training.
Candidates must have English language skills. Internships are given
without regard to age, sex, nationality, or race.

Next available internships are from

    Paintings: September 2016
    Drawing and prints: January 2017
Contemporary art and objects: January 2017

The internship length is from six to twelve months and start in
January or September. Interns have a 37 hour work week. SMK does
not offer financial support for interns, and external funding is
therefore required.

SMK will offer letters of support for fundraising for the accepted
candidate.

The work place will be the Statens Museum for Kunst, Solvgade 48-50,
1307 Kobenhavn K. Accepted applicants must provide proof of their
own health insurance during the internship period.
