The National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo is
currently accepting applications for two workshops on the
conservation and restoration of Japanese art objects on paper and
silk, in Berlin.

"Japanese paper and silk cultural properties" (basic)
6-8 July 2016

    Participants: maximum of 15

    Applicants:  conservators, restorers and restoration
    specialists, curators, researchers, and students of Asian art
    and/or restoration sciences.  Japanese art objects on paper and
    silk will be introduced through lectures, demonstrations, as
    well as practical exercises.  Topics:  Mounting formats,
    Materials and techniques, General principles of conservation and
    restoration in Japan, Handling practice of scrolls and screens

Restoration of Japanese Hanging Scrolls" (advanced)
11-15 July 2016

    Participants: maximum of 9

    Applicants: conservators, restorers and restoration specialists
    who already have an advanced knowledge of Japanese restoration
    and conservation techniques.

    Topics: Analysis of damages on Japanese hanging scrolls,
    Emergency measures, Removing and re-attaching of roller rods,
    Restoration techniques such as lining with Japanese paper The
    these topics are introduced through mainly the practical
    exercises.
