Call for papers

"Preparing for disasters: methods and case studies for the
    safeguarding of documentary cultural heritage"
Columbus, Ohio
13-19 August 2016

The IFLA Preservation and Conservation Core Activity

    <URL:http://www.ifla.org/pac>

invites interested professionals to submit proposals for the open
session during the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in
Columbus, Ohio, USA from 13-19 August 2016.

Preparing for disasters through risk mitigation plans, adequate
staff training and community engagement helps to significantly lower
the loss and damages to cultural heritage in case of disasters. The
Session will explore different aspects of risk mitigation, through
best practice case studies (e.g. staff training, capacity building),
and community engagement that effectively help to safeguard
documentary heritage in case of a natural or man-made disaster. The
Session will also look at how the 2030 Agenda's Sustainable
Development Goal Target 11.4 ("...strengthen efforts to protect and
safeguard the world's cultural and natural heritage") is addressed
and furthered by libraries through their risk mitigation and
preparedness plans.

We therefore invite proposals for papers which deal, among other
aspects, with risk preparedness, risk mitigation and can demonstrate
how these practises are critical to achieve the Goal 11.4 of the
2030 Agenda.

We seek pragmatic use-cases and examples to enable a discussion on
best practice and exchange on this topic.

selected, speakers will have 25-30 minutes to present their results
including 5 minutes for a question and answer period during the
