Position at the Hampton Court Palace

From: Jo Wilson <jo.wilson<-at->
Date: Wednesday, January 13, 2016
Commissioned Treatment Supervisor
Hampton Court Palace

Three year contract: April 2016 - March 2019

Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) is the independent charity that looks
after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting
House, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle in
Northern Ireland.

Across these six sites we care for thousands of historic objects,
many of them in their original royal setting. You'll have a real
interest in our history, in the buildings and their contents and be
willing to help everyone explore how monarchs and people have shaped
society in some of the greatest palaces ever built

Reporting to our Manager of Treatment Conservation, you will plan,
commission and oversee the conservation treatments on our
non-textile collections; both the movable objects and the decorative
fixtures and fittings which range from wall and ceiling paintings to
garden statuary to furnishings and decorative arts. This role
ensures that these mixed collections are conserved and preserved to
exemplary conservation standard. You will manage a wide range of
contracted conservation projects, often leading teams of specialist
staff and external consultants in their successful delivery.

Managing a small staff team of conservators who care passionately
about the preservation of our palaces and their collections, you
will be responsible for conducting treatment need surveys on the
collections using external specialists and from this you will help
develop our long-term plans to prioritise and budget the
conservation treatment across the collections, with your
conservation colleagues who are responsible for studio based textile
treatments. Your work to conserve the collections within the public
rooms of our palaces makes you our liaison to stakeholders such as
Historic England and the palace Operations, Curatorial, Surveying
and Health and Safety teams to agree the approach to conserving and
enable implementation of the on-site works. Being passionate about
and taking responsibility for explaining and profiling our
conservation work internally and externally is an important part of
the job of every conservator at Historic Royal Palaces.

Your degree in conservation, together with substantial relevant
practical hands-on treatment experience and excellent technical
credentials including a good knowledge of conservation policy and
contract management and comprehensive project management skills and
experience, will ensure that you are able to deliver complex
projects to standard and on schedule.

You will also need a sound grasp of Microsoft Word, Excel and
(preferred but not essential), Microsoft Project. Based at Hampton
Court Palace, you may be required to work at our other sites and
must be comfortable working at heights.

Pay: approximately UKP35,832

Closing Date: 7 February 2016
