Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in Paper Conservation
Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is offering a two-year
advanced postgraduate fellowship in the conservation of paper-based
materials beginning in September of 2016.

FAMSF is comprised of two museums, the deYoung and the Legion of
Honor. Holdings in the museums' Achenbach Foundation for Graphic
Arts number over 90,000 artworks. The prints, drawings,
photographs, and artists' books represent more than five hundred
years of works on paper. The collection has particular strength in
modern and contemporary prints.

The Mellon Fellow will play an integral role in the technical
documentation of FAMSF's acquisition of the Archive of Paulson Bott
Press. This will include communication with artists and
printmakers. Paulson Bott Press preserves the tradition of intaglio
printmaking while embracing new technologies. During the past
eighteen years of publishing, the press has produced more than five
hundred editions, working with forty artists, often pushing the
boundaries of traditional printmaking.

The Fellow will work under the supervision of the Head of Paper
Conservation and collaboratively with curators and other
conservators to gain experience in all aspects of conservation
encountered in a large museum setting, including activities related
to exhibition, installation, loans, preventive care, documentation,
research, and public programs. Conservation treatment will be part
of the Fellow's work. Publication and presentation of the Fellow's
research is expected.

The selected candidate will receive annual compensation of $43,000
plus a full benefits package. Additional funds are available for
travel and research. Candidates should be graduates of a
conservation training program and have established interest in
contemporary art and printmaking. Research experience is desirable.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the post is
filled. Candidates are asked to submit a letter of interest and
resume, and to complete the online form, at their earliest
convenience and no later than February 8, 2016.
