Practical training internship Pilgrim Art Restoration Restoration of Polychrome Wooden Altarpiece in Spain Pilgrim Art Restoration is a new initiative created by experienced conservators with a passion for teaching who saw an opportunity to share our knowledge of conservation with a wide audience across the world. Our team has more than 20 years of experience specializing in conservation. We offer students the opportunity to work with real art works in monasteries and convents across Spain. Our program offers students hands on conservation experience, accommodation at historic monasteries, the opportunity to experience a new culture and make use of their skills and training in the real world. Pilgrim Art Restoration will work alongside Declausura Foundation and Familia Humanitate Foundation. The mission of these Foundations is to work for Monasteries and Convents around Spain providing support for maintenance and heritage conservation. Alejandro Lopez Moreno is the founder of the program and has worked in restoration companies like Agora, Petra, Alfagia, Sabbia, EMR, Magaz and also in the Museo del Prado. During his extensive conservation work in monasteries across Spain it became apparent that there was a real opportunity for a mutually beneficial relationship between the monasteries, conservators and students. Monasteries have accommodation for visitors and are in need of investment to pay for much need conservation projects. Conservators and students are interested in working on the priceless and unique art contained within the monasteries. Pilgrim Art Restoration is currently looking for suitable candidates to participate in this practical training internship. Pilgrim Art Restoration specializes in polychrome wooden altarpieces. They offer a 12-20 week international practical training internship in the conservation and restoration of painting and sculpture for emerging professionals from a range of backgrounds. Tasks include: removal of repainting, mechanical and chemical cleaning, lining, molding, gilding with gold leaf, color retouching, and consolidation and structural wood reintegration into the main structure of the altarpiece. The monthly fee of $1,500 USD includes full tuition for the international practical training internship, tools and materials for fieldwork, and accommodation in the monastery and food. The course fee does not include the application fee, flights to and from Spain, travel to the Monastery, or mandatory health insurance. Applicants should be students or a graduate of a recognized conservation training program or have equivalent training. Demonstrated practical skills are required.
