(NCS), and with support from the Foundation of the American
Institute for Conservation.

The karibari workshop is the first in a three-part series hosted by
NEDCC and instructed by NCS staff for the paper conservation
professional interested in basic Asian paintings conservation
procedures. Subsequent workshops, part 2 and 3, will cover scroll
mounting and folding screen construction. Dates are to be
determined. The first week-long workshop will cover the topic of
karibari construction. The karibari board is a traditional Japanese
lightweight panel used to flatten/dry scrolls and works of art on
paper and silk.

The workshop includes lectures, demonstrations, and videos related
to the construction of karibari panels and lining techniques.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to use
traditional Japanese hand tools and apply traditional techniques
that will work with western conservation procedures.
