Call for papers

ICOM-CC Photographic Materials Working Group Interim Meeting
Rijksmuseum Amsterdam
21-24 September 2016

On days one and two, (September 21-22, 2016), which are optional, a
number of tours and workshops will be offered.  These will include:

    A tour to the Impossible Project, one of the last factories in
    the world producing instant film

    A workshop on mass digitizing film negatives at the City
    Archives of Amsterdam

    A tour of the off-site storage facility of the Stedelijk Museum,
    including its cold vaults

    A workshop on the use of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to
    study coatings on photographs

    A tour to Rotterdam and Leiden to see photographic collections
    and conservation studios,

    A Socratic dialogue on cleaning daguerreotypes

    A workshop on a very early process for etching and printing
    daguerreotype plates

    A viewing of early photomechanical prints and books in the grand
    hall of the Rijksmuseum library

and more.

Day three (September 23, 2016) will be dedicated to the conference
theme: Uniques and Multiples.  The joint contemplation of the unique
and the multiple touches upon the very essence of photography, from
its beginnings in the 19th century until the present.  While
seemingly contradictory, the two concepts are actually inextricably
linked and can be explored on many levels.  See the conference

Day four (September 24, 2016) will be a day of free lecture topics,
which the Technical Committee will form into a meaningful programme.

There are only few days left until the deadline for the Call for
Papers, on January 15, 2016.  Please consider contributing to this
conference by submitting an abstract.  The formats to choose from
are: 20-minute talk, 5-minute pitch, and poster.  Details and

international photography fair Unseen will be held
