Subject: Publication on James Ensor
On behalf of the Art Institute of Chicago, we are pleased to announce the publication of the museum's first online exhibition catalogue, James Ensor: The Temptation of Saint Anthony <URL:http://www.artic.edu/research/digital-publications/online-scholarly-catalogues/?&utm_medium=listserv&utm_source=aic-psg&utm_campaign=ensor&utm_content=12-3-14> The volume features new art historical and conservation research on James Ensor's monumental drawing The Temptation of Saint Anthony, which consists of 51 individual sheets and folios. Essays explore the historical context and visual culture that influenced Ensor as he created the work; another focuses on the extensive technical study of the drawing that includes insights into the artist's technical process, revealed during its conservation. The catalogue includes high-resolution imaging that allows readers to zoom in to see the artist's marks in detail, as well as interactive components that show how the drawing developed. The publication is lavishly illustrated with over 500 images. In order to take advantage of the book's fu functionality, we recommend using the latest version of Chrome, Safari, or Firefox. This free online catalogue accompanies the exhibition Temptation: The Demons of James Ensor, which will run from November 23, 2014 - January 25, 2015 at the Art Institute of Chicago. James Ensor: The Temptation of Saint Anthony also exists as a print publication, distributed by Yale University Press. Both the print and online catalogues are generously funded by the Regenstein Foundation. This is the Art Institute's third online publication to utilize the ChicagoCodeX, which has served as the foundation of the open-source digital publishing platform OSCI Toolkit <URL:http://www.oscitoolkit.org> Kimberly J.
