Conservation Technician

The UW Libraries has an outstanding opportunity for a Part-Time 50%
Conservation Technician.

This position provides basic to complex repair and housing for book
and paper materials, and contributes to the conservation unit's
preservation activities throughout the library system.  Typical
duties include binding repair (primarily 19th century to present)
including cloth case rebacking, joint repair, resewing, replacing
endsheets, textblock consolidation, incorporating replacement pages,
etc.; constructing protective enclosures such as drop spine boxes,
four-flap wrappers, and custom-designed boxes; measuring items for
commercially made custom sized boxes; preparing damaged textblocks
to be sent for library binding; surface cleaning and repair of book
pages, maps, drawings, and other flat paper materials.  The emphasis
of the incumbent's work is circulating collections, but will at
times include rare materials.  The conservation technician may
participate, as needed, in library collections disaster response and
recovery activities.

The conservation technician is one of four staff members in the
Libraries' conservation unit, where collaboration and learning are
encouraged.

This is a half-time position, weekday schedule to be determined,
under the general supervision of the Conservation Supervisor.
