Short Conservation Courses Spring 2015 West Dean College, Chichester, West Sussex, England 22-27 February 2015 Conservation of Transport and Industrial Collections Topics will include: The history and current direction of conservation and restoration treatments Recognising the properties of different categories of fabrics, leather, woods, paint and varnish finishes, metals etc Recognising the main causes and effects of degradation of the material Identifying the major environmental parameters for safe handling, storage and display Identifying and discussing the pros and cons of in-situ treatments and treatments involving temporary removal of one or more element of the object Non-residential course fee: UKP684 Plus 5 days' accommodation: From UKP225 16-19 March 2015 Conservation of Plastics This course is designed to offer participants guidance and practice in state-of-the-art techniques for the handling, packing, storage and display of plastics. It consists of theory and practical sessions, concentrating on recognising the many different materials encountered in collections, their preventive and active conservation. A generous bursary for attendance on this course is available from The Gabo Trust. Applicants must be involved with the conservation of modern sculpture.
