Subject: Ethics and material evidence in court
Does anyone know if there are publications dealing with preservation work carried out on exhibits or evidence tendered in a court or tribunal and/or the ethics surrounding this? In an archival collection I have been consulted about, there are several records that could use some preservation work to stabilise them for permanent retention. The concern is that the records were tendered in court and are now considered exhibits/evidence and as such should "not be tampered with" (verbatim from the practice directives). If anyone encountered a similar situation, how was it handled?
