Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week), split site

UKP21,108.00 rising to UKP21,674.00 (on successful completion of 6
months' probation)

The Church of England Library and Archives division wishes to
recruit an enthusiastic and proactive Preservation Assistant to this
newly re-defined post.  The position would make an ideal entry level
situation for a recent graduate in Library and Archives
Conservation/Preservation or for a dynamic person wishing to pursue
the ICON Conservation Technician Qualification (CTQ).

The successful candidate will work at both sites:

    3 days per week at Lambeth Palace Library, founded in 1610,
    which is the historic library of the Archbishops of Canterbury.
    Situated in a grade 1 listed building, the post supports the
    work of the Preservation Manager.

    2 days per week in Bermondsey for The Church of England Record
    Centre (CERC), which holds the archives of a variety of
    historical central Church of England bodies, and provides a
    records management service to the National Church Institutions.
    Here your work will be to support the Consortium Conservator and
    provide a preservation service.

The main duties will be:

    To monitor environmental conditions within the LPL and CERC
    collections, interpreting recorded data and being reactive to
    any changes

    To advance the Library's phase-boxing programme, and to continue
    CERC's re-packaging project

    To assist with condition assessment databases

    To undertake a regular timetable of general, shelf and
    book/archive cleaning within the storage areas

    To implement a preservation service within CERC and to undertake
    basic conservation

    Relocating, sorting, cleaning, boxing, stock-taking, and listing
    items in storage.
