Tate Gallery
Clothworkers' Fellow in Conservation

UKP24,000 per annum

The Clothworkers' Fellow is a remarkable opportunity for a
conservator with some experience to develop and broaden their
knowledge by joining one of the leading conservation teams in the
museum world. The Clothworkers' Foundation Conservation Fellowship
runs for 24 months and is based in the Paintings section of Tate's
Conservation Department, which is responsible for the technical
investigation, conservation and restoration of works of art in the
Tate's Collection and in its care. The role is supervised by an
experienced Paintings Conservator.

The successful candidate will develop knowledge of collection care
in a large institution and the varied skills needed to support an
extensive programme of exhibitions and displays including protection
for artworks on display, packing and transportation, environmental
monitoring and more. They will gain experience through undertaking
general activities of conservation practice within a busy gallery
programme at Tate Modern under the guidance of a senior member of
staff. The Fellow will complete two collection care projects with
opportunities to explore issues relating to the conservation and
care of modern and contemporary paintings through technical
examination, documentation and treatment of paintings.

To apply for this role, candidates will have a professional
qualification in the Conservation of Paintings or equivalent
experience. They will be able to assess, treat and document
paintings and be able to show their ability to conserve paintings to
a high standard. They will demonstrate knowledge and application of
conservation ethics, health and safety, problem solving skills and
experience with relevant information technology such as image
processing and databases. They will have good interpersonal and
communication abilities, be adaptable and have good organisational
and time management skills.

This 24 month fellowship opportunity has been made possible due to
external funding from the Clothworkers' Foundation. Tate is unable
to make an offer of permanent employment at the end of this
fellowship
