Workshop "Sustainable Preservation Practices for Managing" Storage Environments Berkeley California November 4-5, 2014 The California Preservation Program is pleased to announce and to host a workshop on Sustainable Preservation Practices for Managing Storage Environments on November 4-5, 2014 This free two-day workshop will be held at the David Brower Center, 2150 Alston Way, Suite 100, Berkeley, CA. Funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and presented by the Image Permanence Institute (IPI), workshop registration is now open. To register or to learn more visit <URL:http://www.ipisustainability.org/series-iii/> Topic and schedule details will be available at <URL:http://www.ipisustainability.org> when they are finalized. Presentations are designed to enable collections care, facilities, and administrative staff in cultural institutions to work together to define and achieve an optimal preservation environment-one that combines the best possible preservation of collections with the least possible consumption of energy, and is sustainable over time. The workshop will convey the latest information and best practices for sustainable management of collection storage environments. Participants will receive two full days of practical information on understanding mechanical system functions, responsible energy-saving strategies, and guidelines for managing changes in environmental settings without reducing preservation quality. Each participant will receive a copy of IPI's Guide to Sustainable Preservation Practices for Managing Storage Environments. There is no registration fee for the workshop, but space is limited-register early if you are certain that you can attend. We strongly encourage a team approach and suggest that institutions register more than one participant in order to represent collections, facilities, and administrative responsibilities.
