This position is available September 2014 through May 2015 and may
be extended through summer 2015 by mutual agreement.

Located in midtown Manhattan, APC has provided paper conservation
and consultation services since 1985 to an international clientele
of museums, artists' estates, galleries, and corporate and private
collections.  The treatments undertaken at APC must adhere to the
exacting standards and demands of the New York art community, which
depends on us to provide the highest level of service.

Treatments are interesting and varied; objects include original
works on paper, fine and historic prints, posters, documents,
historic maps, photographs, and parchment.  Approaches range from
routine stabilization to complex treatments of idiosyncratic
contemporary objects.

The position is part time, 15-20 hours per week, the hours are
flexible.  The intern will work directly with the senior
conservator; duties include surface cleaning and mending, tape
removal, backing removal and generally assisting with treatment
processes and studio organization and maintenance.  Required are
good manual dexterity and powers of observation, ability to focus on
detail, a background in art, curiosity, sensitivity and a good work
ethic.

This job is ideal for a current conservation student specializing in
paper or a pre-program person with some experience in a paper
conservation lab.  Other related experience would be hinging and
matting, preparator, gallery work hands-on with works on paper, or
any experience handling fragile objects of artistic or cultural
significance.
