Educational Stipend: UKP16,600

The Leather Conservation Centre, which is based in Northampton, UK,
is a major international centre for conservation, education and
research. It offers a comprehensive service in the conservation and
restoration of objects, books and archive materials of historic,
cultural and artistic importance, made wholly or partly of leather
or related materials. Clients include national and local museums,
historic houses, libraries and private clients.

This placement offers an opportunity to work primarily on a
significant collection of 20th Century leather bound albums.  In
addition, there will be an opportunity to work on other books, early
parchment deeds and historic leather objects.

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of
conservation, including practical treatments, condition assessments
and photography, and conservation proposals.  As part of a small
team you will be expected to carry out a wide range of duties and
will be fully involved in the work of the Centre.

Candidates need to be enthusiastic highly-motivated, reliable and
resourceful with excellent manual skills and willing to work in a
team.  A clean driving licence is desirable.

A recognised conservation qualification is required for this
internship.  Experience with manuscript, book and archival material
as part of that qualification or, through work experience to an
equivalent level of understanding and practice, is essential.
