Subject: Internship at Chester Beatty Library
Internship in Conservation Chester Beatty Library, Dublin The Heritage Council and the Chester Beatty Library are pleased to offer a twelve-month internship in conservation. The scheme is co-funded by the Heritage Council and the generous support of the Library's contributing members. The internship offers the possibility of professional workplace experience within a prestigious institution. This year's internship will focus on the conservation of objects in preparation for digitisation. The aim of the Chester Beatty Library's digitisation programme is to make a complete digital surrogate of the Collections, preserving content and protecting sensitive material from continued physical handling. These digital surrogates will not only inspire further research and interpretation of the library's holdings, but will foster international engagement and interaction through increased digital access to the Collections. Practical projects will focus on the preparation of manuscripts and single folios for digitisation from across the collections. The successful candidate will also gain experience working in the Library's busy Conservation Laboratory. He/She will work under the supervision of the Library's Head of conservation, Jessica Baldwin. The internship is for a period of one year only and will be funded at a rate of Euro26,700 per annum (subject to PRSI and PAYE). The start date is flexible and can be adjusted to fit the successful candidate's existing commitments; however he/she would ideally start in October or November 2014. The deadline for applications is Friday 22 August 2014 and interviews will be held in early September, 2014.
