Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston seeks a full-time Associate
Paintings Conservator to fill an 18-month term position beginning
summer 2014.  This is one of two positions focused on the
conservation of a very large 18th century painting by Benjamin West.
Essential functions include: undertake treatment and research of
painting; interact and communicate with visitors directly and
through 'new media;' document object condition and conservation work
in writing and through photography, in accordance with departmental
standards in collections database system; contribute to research,
reports, lectures, and scholarly articles for the project.

Applicants should have a Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) with a
specialization in paintings conservation from a recognized
conservation training program.  At least five years of post-training
experience is required.  Comfort with working in a conservation
studio open to the public and with interacting with the public is
essential.  Structural as well as aesthetic treatment skills are
required for this challenging project.  Strong in-painting skills
desirable.  Ability to work and excel as part of a team and in a
rapidly-paced environment required.  Excellent written, photo
documentation, and communication skills are essential.
