Assistant Objects Conservator American Museum of Natural History The American Museum of Natural History seeks to hire an assistant objects conservator for a full-time 22-month position to work with anthropology department conservators in treatment of its renowned collection of Siberian artifacts acquired during the Jesup North Pacific Expedition of 1896-1902. The artifacts include highly decorated fur and hide coats and other items of clothing, as well as birch bark, wood and other types of containers, basketry, jewelry, models, and more. Responsibilities: Object documentation, treatment, technical research and re-housing. The assistant conservator will also work closely on this project with staff conservators to develop project blog and consultation activities with source communities, as well as supervise volunteers. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have completed a recognized graduate level conservation training program with a minimum of two years post-graduate treatment experience, including some work with ethnographic artifacts. Conservator must possess excellent written and photographic documentation and planning skills; will have demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collegially. Project will begin in October, 2014. Salary commensurate with experience and includes full benefit package.
