The Science Museum Group is world renowned for its historic
collections, awe-inspiring galleries and inspirational exhibitions
and has an exciting Internship opportunity working with the historic
World War One medical collections.

You will be an enthusiastic and hard working individual with a keen
interest in object conservation on a range of materials.  The
internship will focus on developing and learning the skills
necessary to maintain and conserve the nation's collection of
historic medical objects in the Science Museum's World War One
medical collection.  This post will be based at the Blythe House
storage site in London.

You will use best professional practice to create condition reports,
treatment proposals and conserve objects intended for display in an
exhibition with the working title 'The Wounded'.  You will be
involved in storage improvements and collections care activities
relating to this collection.

Whilst working within the Conservation and Collections Care
department you will also have the opportunity to participate in
other conservation projects at the Museum.  The exact nature of your
participation will depend on your training and previous experience.

You will have demonstrable experience of working in a conservation
environment and a strong interest in medical collections and their
conservation.  A recent, recognised qualification in conservation,
or equivalent practical experience and knowledge, is essential for
this internship.

You will need to be aware of hazard management procedures associated
with historical objects and have a good knowledge of Health and
Safety, including safe use of chemicals for lab safety and
collections management.
