Kress Fellowship in Time-based Media Conservation Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum 2014-2015 The Conservation Department at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York is accepting applications for a one-year, full-time Kress Conservation Fellowship in Time-based Media Conservation, starting October 1, 2014. The Kress Fellowship will focus on the conservation and presentation of video, film, slide, audio and software-based art in the Guggenheim collection. This Fellowship has been supported by a grant from the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation, funded by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. The Kress Fellowship at the Guggenheim is a unique educational opportunity for a recent MA conservation graduate to obtain valuable experience in the conservation of time-based media in the context of an international art museum. The Fellow will assist Guggenheim conservation staff with the preparation, installation and documentation of media art collection works, as well as collection care activities such as intake of new acquisitions, facilitation of loans, cataloguing of obsolete equipment, creation of installation instructions and other artwork documentation. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to contribute to a research project on the preservation of software-based art that will coincide with their fellowship. The successful candidate will have a completed MA degree from a conservation program in the U.S. or Canada, and is legally authorized to work in the U.S. Candidates with relevant training and experience in time-based media and contemporary art conservation are preferred. Candidates with a strong knowledge of various video, audio or film technologies, electronic media, and computer code will be given preference.
