Conservator of Antiquities Fitzwilliam Museum Salary range: UKP33,562 - UKP45,053 Fixed term for one year The Fitzwilliam Museum houses the principal collections of art and antiquities of the University of Cambridge and holds over half a million objects in its care. The Department of Antiquities collections comprise about 27,000 Greek and Roman, Egyptian and Ancient Near Eastern objects of international importance and considerable monetary value. You will be an accredited conservator, or working towards accreditation, with the necessary experience as well as demonstrable specialist knowledge and skills to undertake technical investigation and research,interventive and preventive conservation of these collections, to the highest technical and ethical standards. You will work with the Senior Conservator of Antiquities to deliver both the day-to-day work and the management of special projects, such as the conservation aspects of gallery developments and exhibitions. A major project in the next year will be the completion of a range of technical examination and analysis of the ancient materials and technologies that characterise the Museum's collection of Egyptian coffins and related items, together with the conservation treatment of some of these objects. The results of this work will contribute both to a major catalogue and to an exhibition in the Museum's bicentenary year of 2016. The post-holder will also be required to play an active role in the Museum-wide Collections Care programme, and contribute to the University of Cambridge Museums' Conservation Programme which may include both further exhibition-related work and outreach events.
