Subject: Printing ink stains on paper
My degree thesis deals with study of an archive group of posters dated 1850-1910 belonging to the library of Geneve. The most important problem is the presence of stains throughout around the letters: their occurrence probably depends on the migration of some substances presented in the ink. The printing ink and the stains made the underlying paper very brittle. The test for the individuation of iron ions (2+) was positive only on the stains. Has anyone faced this type of problem yet?
