Silicone oil for vegetable tanned leather

I am looking into current surface treatment for vegetable tanned
leather and wonder if anyone is using, or has thoughts on the use
of, silicone oils as described in Lena Ludwick's graduating thesis
2012 "A Comparative Study on Surface Treatments in Conservation of
Dry Leather With Focus on Silicone Oil"
