Subject: IRENE system
Early Edison cylinders imaged at NEDCC's IRENE Lab NEDCC recently had very special visitors to the IRENE Lab: Jerry Fabris, Museum Curator at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park and David Giovannoni, founder of First Sounds, a collaboration of experts dedicated to recovering audio from the world's earliest sound recordings. But the most distinguished visitors to the lab that day were some of the earliest examples of recorded sound. Jerry Fabris brought a few of the Edison Park's most historically significant recordings to NEDCC to be transferred using the IRENE optical approach. The Edison cylinders are part of the pilot phase of the Center's IMLS funded project to bring the IRENE technology to cultural institutions across the U.S. as a new service soon to be available at NEDCC. Project inquiries are now being accepted.
