The Otago Museum is seeking an experienced professional to
coordinate and develop conservation policies and activities within
the Museum.

The Otago Museum collection is a diverse and significant one
encompassing wood, metal, textiles, plastics, stone, ceramics, glass
and natural specimens.  The Conservation Manager will work with
Museum staff to enhance the longevity, stability and accessibility
of collection items, for the Otago community.

The successful applicant will have the knowledge, qualifications,
experience and accreditation to carry out and guide collection care
according to professional standards and practices.

Scope: Provide conservation and collection leadership within the
Otago Museum.  Manage and assist with the preparation of collection
items for display, undertake conservation assessments, scientific
examination, treatments, documentation, research and publications.
Work with the Collections and Research Team and wider Museum Team to
monitor collection items and carry out preventive conservation.

Primary purpose: To assist with the coordination and development of
conservation policies within the Museum.  To be responsible for the
conservation of Museum collection items according to professional
conservation ethics, standards and practices.  To provide hands-on
leadership enhancing the longevity, stability and accessibility of
collection items and facilitating public access to and enjoyment of
the Museum collection.

Required qualifications, skills and knowledge: A recognised tertiary
qualification in conservation.  Have, or seek to obtain, a
recognised conservation qualification in a specialist area.
Professional Accreditation for Conservator-Restorers (PACR), or the
willingness to become accredited.  A minimum of five years practical
experience in the conservation of mixed collections (wood, metal,
textile, plastics, stone, ceramics, glass, natural history
specimens).  A proven knowledge of current conservation practice and
codes of ethics.  The desire to keep abreast of current conservation
and preservation issues and professional ethical developments.
