Position at Historic Royal Palaces

Treatment Conservation Manager
Historic Royal Palaces

Full time, permanent
Based at Hampton Court Palace

Approximately UKP40,000

Here at Historic Royal palaces (HRP) we exist for tomorrow, not just
for today. As conservators our job is to give these palaces a
future as valuable as their past. By managing the conservation
treatment of our tapestries, furnishing and costume textiles,
decorative objects and interiors, you'll ensure they can be enjoyed
well into the future.

You will be responsible for delivering a complex and
well-established programme of treatments that are carried out by 18
textile treatment specialists in our Hampton Court Palace studio and
through commissioning external specialists to conserve our
non-textile collections.

Working within five of the country's greatest palaces, you will be
part of the Conservation and Collection Care department's (CCC)
conservation management team, developing and delivering conservation
treatments in concert with other managers who are responsible for
the preventive conservation, scientific research and collection
management activities. You will be expected to report on treatment
need and programme progress to HRP staff at all levels, from the CCC
Head and the Trustees to our visitors.

You will be a conservation specialist with a proven record of
devising and delivering high quality conservation treatment
programmes. You'll have a degree (or equivalent) in conservation
and an advanced knowledge of conservation treatments, ideally with
extensive experience and interest in the treatment of textile
objects. You will have achieved ACR or have the level of experience
and knowledge to apply. You will have an enthusiasm for managing
specialist staff and delighting our audiences and understand the
benefits of communicating and promoting the work of conservation to
influence best practice and build support for our activities.

It is equally important that you're an experienced project manager,
with proven project and people management skills, who can lead a
team to meet deadlines. Your expertise will make you part of the
management team, with the chance to collaborate with people and
project manage initiatives across the organisation and with managers
within CCC. You should understand the demands of a
customer-focussed (but business-based) environment and be passionate
about working in team structures, within CCC, and across the
disciplines of a large scale heritage site organisation, both
internally and externally.

Although based at Hampton Court Palace, there will be a requirement
to work at other palaces, sometimes for extended periods of time.

Closing date: Thursday 27 March 2014
